VARANASI: An eight-month-old daughter of an under trial female prisoner lodged in Ballia district jail died of an unknown illness on Sunday morning. The district magistrate of Ballia has ordered a magisterial probe into the matter.
According to Ballia district jail superintendent NK Singh, the inmate, Kalo, had been lodged in the jail on September 5, when she had arrived with her daughter.
Reports stated that Kalo was arrested for her involvement in a case of chain snatching. Her daughter's health began deteriorating on Saturday morning.
Singh said, "Doctors of the prison's hospital had examined the girl. But, her condition continued to deteriorate." Kalo alleged that despite her request the jail officials did not show interest in sending her daughter to any hospital. On Sunday morning the jail's doctors examined her again and referred her to a district hospital, where she later died.
