Glenmark national aquatic championship: Sajan Prakash steals show on day two
Bengaluru: Rio Olympian Sajan Prakash was top performer as he set a new national mark during Day Two of the Glenmark senior national aquatic championship held in Ranchi on Sunday.
The Kerala-born swimmer set the new mark in the 200M butterfly, his pet event, as he touched the pad in 1:15.35 seconds, confirming his position as the first Indian to go below two mintues in the event, to eclipse Aaron D’Souza’s three-year-old mark of 2:00.90 seconds.
The other national record came in the 4x100m medley relay with Railways, clocking 3:48.95s, bettering their own previous record of 3:50.82s set last year.
For Karnataka, the only gold medal came in the women’s 200M butterfly as Damini K Gowda claimed the yellow metal with a time of 2:21.9s ahead of Maharashtra’s Trisha Karkhanis (2:27.94s) and Srishti Nag (2:28.11s).
Among the men’s event, Vaishnav Hegde (29.17) earned a silver in 50m breaststroke while Avinash Mani (1:56.13s) took home the bronze in the 200M freestyle event.
Railways lead the table with eleven medals, seven gold, three silver and one bronze, followed by Maharashtra (four gold, four silver and one bronze) and Gujarat (two gold, one silver). Karnataka are fourth with one gold, five silver and seven bronze.
