Home Minister G. Parameshwara has called upon the members of Vishwakarma community to organise themselves for strong political presence.
Presiding over the eighth State-level Vishwakarma Jayanthotsava here on Sunday, Mr. Parameshwara said political power will knock at the doors of the community if they organise themselves and show their strength.
Kannada actor Shivarajkumar was conferred with the Vishwakarma award on the occasion.
K.P. Nanjundi, president of the Akhila Karnataka Vishwakarma Mahasabha, said that he will not support any political party.
However, Mr. Nanjundi said that if there was a threat to the Kannada nela, jala and bhashe (threat to Kannada land, water and language), he would protect it.
Vishwakarma award also given to ace gymnastic Dipa Karmakar and High Court advocate Lakshminarayan.
Prior to the function, a procession of Vishwakarma idol was taken out in a silver chariot from the taluk office to the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar district stadium.
Women carrying kalasha and poornakumbha on their heads and folk artistes followed the chariot.
Suttur Mutt seer Shivarathri Deshikendra Swami, Kala Hastendra Swami and several Vishwakarma leaders were present on the occasion.
