Expressing concern over the rise in heart diseases in the country, doctors and paramedical staff of the city’s hospitals and clinics organised a walkathon on Sunday to spread awareness on the importance of a healthy heart.
The event was organised by the Mysuru chapter of the Cardiological Society of India (CSI) in view of World Heart Day, which falls on September 29.
The participants, carrying heart-shaped balloons and placards, marched on the streets of the city to spread awareness on the need and ways to have a hale and hearty life. The theme of this year’s World Heart Day is “creating heart-healthy environment at places we live, work and play”.
K.S. Rangappa, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mysore, flagged off the walkathon at J.K. Grounds. The walkathon passed through N.S. Road and Devaraja Urs Road before concluding where it started. The participants carried placards with meaningful messages on cardiac ailments.
CSI Mysuru president K.N. Bhaskar, secretary K. Santosh, vice-president Dr. Harsha Basappa, treasurer Dr. K.S. Rajit, and others took part in the walkathon. Many hospitals have put up posters inside and outside their premises on the do’s and dont’s to keep the heart healthy.
Meanwhile, Narayana Multispeciality Hospital conducted a ‘yogathon’ by the Balarama Gate of Mysuru palace on Sunday.
