Prakash Mallya to receive K.K. Pai Banking Award

Prakash Mallya, the former chairman of Vijaya Bank, has been selected for the K.K. Pai National Banking Award for 2016-17.

In a press release issued here, K.K. Ammannaya, Secretary of K.K. Pai Trust, said that the award function will be held at T.A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) at 4 p.m. on October 9. Mr. Mallya was the Chairman of Vijaya Bank from April 1, 2006 to July 31, 2008. During his stewardship, Vijaya Bank achieved most impressive results on a wide front.

He was instrumental in opening 128 new branches of the bank, taking the total number of branches to 1,051. The number of ATMS increased from 128 to 272, while the coverage of core banking went up from 69 per cent to 93 per cent of bank’s business.

Before joining Vijaya Bank, Mr. Mallya was Executive Director in Syndicate Bank. He started his banking career in 1973 with Canara Bank as an officer and rose to hold high positions in that bank. He is recipient of many awards.

He is currently serving as Director of Lakshmi Vilas Bank since September 2014, Director on the Board of Stock Holding Corporation of India since September 2008 and President, Canara Bank Relief and Welfare Society since December 2008, the release said.
