The number of artificial limbs donated by the Rotary Club of Tiruchirappalli Midtown and Hindu Mission Hospital has gone up to 1000 with the distribution of 20 more limbs to the beneficiaries on Sunday.
To mark the feat, the Rotary Club organised a function here with J. Swarnalatha, Swarga Foundation, Coimbatore, as chief guest. She distributed limbs specially made by Hindu Mission Hospital to the beneficiaries.
Speaking at the function, she said that the initiative would help the beneficiaries to lead normal and routine life.
There was a need to create confidence among physically challenged people on leading normal life.
M. Muruganandam, Rotary governor (district 3000), S. Muruganantham, president, Rotary Club of Tiruchirappalli Midtown, and others spoke.
V.V. Subramanian, district coordinator, Differently Abled and secretary, Hindu Mission Hospital, said that a total of 1,000 beneficiaries including poor, economically and socially weaker groups, women, children and college goers had so far been distributed with artificial limps.
Each would cost Rs.3,000.
