The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] for their “mutually helpful agenda of communal polarisation.”
Addressing a press meet on the outcome of Saturday’s meeting of the party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) here, KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran accused the CPI(M) leaders and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government of creating conducive conditions for the BJP to prosper.
The BJP’s approach too was on similar lines. “The two parties together were trying to divide society on communal lines for narrow political gains,” Mr. Sudheeran said.
‘BJP’s pipe dream’
The PAC dismissed the claims of BJP president Amit Shah that his party would make inroads in Kerala and capture power. “This is a pipe dream. The BJP-led NDA government’s attitude towards Kerala has been one of pure neglect,” Mr. Sudheeran said.
In the case of Uri incident, the PAC felt that national security was not in safe hands. After the Uri attack, the least the BJP leadership could do was to call off its “pompous national council meeting in Kozhikode.” Moreover, party platforms should not be used to discuss national issues. Parliament is the appropriate place, the PAC felt.
Gandhi Smrithi Yatra
The PAC approved a campaign strategy from Gandhi Jayanthi (October 2) to November 19, the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi based on the slogan “Save India, Save the People.” The KPCC president will undertake a Gandhi Smrithi Yatra against political violence, atrocities against tribespeople and Dalits.
