Developmental initiatives, which of late had come to a standstill following a logjam between the SAD and BJP, will now be taken up on a war footing following a rapprochement between both parties facilitated by a local doctor.

Following this development, Rs 16.1 crore which had been sanctioned by the state government, but could not reach the coffers of the Municipal Committee (MC) due to the infighting in the ruling alliance will now be released.

Gurdaspur DC Pardeep Sabharwal has called a meeting of various stakeholders on Monday to give the final approval.

Residents heaved a sigh of relief after word spread that former MLA and SAD halqa incharge LS Lodhinangal and MC president Naresh Mahajan, a BJP man, had agreed to end their infighting for the “common cause of the residents.”

Both leaders had refused to come to the table, but on Saturday, a local physician and social activist, Dr SS Nijjar, managed to convince the leaders to do so.
