Volunteers collect trash after Baba Farid Mela

FARIDKOT: To spread a message that religious ceremonies need to be conducted keeping in mind civic responsibilities, some teachers, students and elderly people today joined hands to collect plastic and trash left behind from langars held during the five-day Baba FaridMela in Faridkot.

Faridkot, September 25

To spread a message that religious ceremonies need to be conducted keeping in mind civic responsibilities, some teachers, students and elderly people today joined hands to collect plastic and trash left behind from langars held during the five-day Baba FaridMela in Faridkot.

Volunteers of Society for Ecological and Environmental Resources (SEER) collected five tractor-trailers of plastic waste. Most of this trash was generated on the concluding day of the fair on September 23 when over 100 langars were organised in the town, said SEER volunteers.

As this non-biodegradable plastic garbage is the major reason for the blockage of our sewage system, the volunteers not only collected trash but also requested organisers of langars not to use plastic plates. The volunteers said there was no facility of dustbin at these langars. — TNS
