Chandigarh, September 25

The state will be kerosene-free by April 1, 2017. Ambala, Gurgaon, Jhajjar, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Panipat, Panchkula and Yamunanagar districts will be made kerosene-free by November 1.

A spokesman said a scheme was being run in the state to provide free-of-cost gas connections. With a view to achieve smoke-free environment for housewives, the state government had decided to give gas connections to the BPL families which were ineligible for it under the Ujjawala scheme or those with no gas connection or those who did not buy kerosene oil on ration card, he said.

The cost of gas connection (Rs 1,600) would be borne by the state government. Under the scheme, BPL families in the eight districts would get gas connections from their nearest LPG dealer by October 31.

He said the supply of kerosene oil under the public distribution system in the districts would end on November 1. Bhiwani, Faridabad, Fatehabad, Hisar, Jind, Kaithal, Narnaul, Nuh, Palwal, Rewari, Rohtak, Sirsa and Sonepat districts would be kerosene-free by April 1, 2017. BPL families in these districts should get gas connections from their nearest LPG dealers by March 31, 2017.
