Blind, Hoarder Mom From Brooklyn Didn’t Know She Was Living With Her Son’s Corpse

It was just last week that police discovered a mom from Brooklyn had been living with the corpse of her dead adult son for a number of years. According to the Gothamist, Rita Wolfensohn, who is both legally blind and a hoarder, may have not even known the corpse of her dead son was in the home with her.

It was on September 15 that NYPD discovered the corpse of the deceased son of this Brooklyn mother at a home located on Avenue N near East 22nd Street in Midwood. Josette Buchman, the Brooklyn mother’s sister-in-law was in the home because Wolfensohn had fallen and needed to go to the hospital. It was while Josette Buchman was in the home to gather some belongings for her sister-in-law that she made the gruesome discovery and called NYPD.

In what was described as a debris-choked second-floor bedroom, the sister-in-law to this Brooklyn mother discovered a skeleton which was “completely intact,” wearing jeans, socks, and a shirt. The skeleton was lying on its back on a thin mattress on the floor of the bedroom, according to what police told The New York Post.

“It’s like some reverse ‘Psycho’ scene,” a law enforcement source commenting on the scene said. The officer was referring to the Hitchcock’s 1960 horror movie where Norman Bates keeps the dead corpse of his mother in a basement.

After doing some investigating, Brooklyn police do not believe this blind, hoarder mother knew she was living with the corpse of her dead son. The room where the corpse was discovered was filled with cobwebs and garbage. Police sources said the room looked as if a garbage truck had just dumped a load in the room.

Naturally, the question many people are asking – is what about the smell? Dead bodies and decaying flesh have a very distinct and repulsive spell. Police told The New York Post the room the corpse of the blind, hoarder Brooklyn mom’s son was discovered in did not smell like decaying flesh. This is because the room was overpowered with the stench of rotting food.

Police did question the blind Brooklyn mom about her son. When she spoke about her son to the police, she spoke about him as if she believed he had just moved out of her home one day and they never spoke again.

Joseph Buchman, the blind Brooklyn mom’s brother and Josette, declined to say where this Brooklyn mother is currently staying after this horrific ordeal took place. However, The New York Post speculates that she may be staying at a Long Island assisted-living facility the two were seen visiting on Saturday.

Joseph claimed that he and his sister were not very close and he had not spoken to her in years. A second relative said he would not make any comments about the situation until “after the funeral” took place.

The Brooklyn home where this mom had lived with her deceased son’s body was once a gorgeous, two-story brick home that is believed to be worth about $700,000.

Brooklyn authorities have yet to confirm whether or not it was the son of this blind, hoarder mom from Brooklyn who was found dead in her home. They have, however, confirmed the man likely died of natural causes.

Public records reveal the blind, hoarder Brooklyn mom had two sons named Louis and Michael. Court documents revealed Michael died back in 2003 at the age of 38. Relatives confirmed they had not seen or heard from Louis in roughly 20 years.
