Cops want to retrieve BBM chats
New Delhi: In a first of its kind move, TOI has learnt that Delhi Police has sent a Letters Rogatory (LR) to the department of justice, Canada to help it retrieve the deleted chats from the Blackberry phones of Sunanda Pushkar and Shashi Tharoor. However, they are yet to receive a reply.
The details of the communiqué have not been disclosed, but sources confirmed that Delhi Police recently wrote to the department to ask Research in Motion (RIM) to expedite release of the information to investigate the high profile murder case.

A DCP, who recently went to the US to get Pushkar’s remains from FBI lab and get clarity on the reports, met some officials in this regard. If it is found that chats from her phones were deleted, then a key figure in the case will be directly probed for malafide intent.
Sources said that Delhi Police had found evidence that chats were deleted from the Blackberry phones of the couple. Several chats were also found mentioned in the statements of journalist Nalini Singh, a witness and the last person Pushkar spoke to over the phone.
“At 12.10am, on the intervening night of January 16 and 17, I got a call on my mobile from Sunanda. She said Shashi and Tarar had exchanged intimate romantic messages. One message from Tarar implied that Tharoor was going to divorce Sunanda after the elections and marry Tarar. She also said she had ‘taken over’ the crimes of Tharoor in the IPL matter. She wanted my help in retrieving the BBM messages that Tharoor had deleted from his Blackberry,” Singh had said in her statement.
During questioning of Pak columnist Mehr Tarar — which was first reported by TOI — the police had asked her about her purported BBM conversations with Tharoor.
Sunanda also had several chats with controversial meat exporter Moin Qureshi on her Blackberry. A BBM message Sunanda sent on March 17, 2013 purportedly read: “Is everything okay in your factory? We missed you... But having another dinner, do come. Hey Naveen, Shashi and I would be delighted if you would join us for dinner at our home, 97, Lodhi Estate, at 8.30pm on Wednesday. A chance to be convivial before the Parliament recess, Love Sunanda.”
