Patna: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar will formally launch two of the seven schemes under his government’s ‘Saat Nishchay’ (seven resolves) on September 27.
The two schemes are ‘Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal’ (Tap water to each household) and ‘Shauchalay Nirmaan- Ghar Ka Sammaan’ (construction of toilets, an honour for each home). While Rs47,700 crore would be spent in the next five years on the ‘Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal’ scheme, a sum of Rs28,700 crore is to be spent on the ‘Shauchalay Nirmaan’ scheme across the state in the same period.
The Grand Alliance government has already implemented one of the seven schemes, namely ‘Aarakshit Rojgar, Mahilaon Ko Adhikar’ (reservation in government job, women’s right) by notifying 35% quota for women in all state government job while it is scheduled to launch Rs4 lakh student credit card scheme on October 2.
According to a recent survey conducted by the urban development and housing department (UDHD), there are 19,08,164 households in total 3,323 wards in 140 urban local bodies in the state. Of the total households, only 3,36,521 houses are getting piped water. The UDHD has to ensure supply of piped water to the rest of around 15.71 lakh homes.
Similarly, under the ‘Shauchalay Nirmaan’ scheme, the state has decided to construct around 1.68 crore toilets to make Bihar healthy, hygienic and free from open-defecation.
Under the tap water scheme, the government has promised to ensure supply of clean drinking water through pipe to all homes across the state. The state, in the next five years, is to ensure supply of piped water to around 1.95 lakh households in 8,391 panchayats and 140 urban local bodies (ULBs) in all 38 districts.
A government official said PHED, urban development and rural development departments have to implement the tap water schemes in a time-bound manner.
The UDHD, rural development and panchayati raj department have been given the task of completing the toilet scheme in the next four years.
