Telugu poet Jhashuva remembered
Noted writer and Padma Shri awardee, Kolakaluri Enoch was felicitated by Jhashuva Kala Peetham in Guntur as part of Gurram Jhashuva birth anniversary celebrations.
GUNTUR: Stating that Gurram Jhashuva is the first poet to represent the voice of down trodden sections in telugu literature, noted writer Kolakaluri Enoch has observed that his writings remain a syllabus for many generations to come. He said that Jhashuva would be legendary poet for ever because of his courage to pour scorn on the system that ignored the dalits and backward classes.
Gurram Jhashuva Kalapeetham headed by former minister Dokka Manikya Varaprasad felicitated Enoch here at a programme held as part of week-long celebrations of Jhashuva birth anniversary on Saturday. Progressive writers association (Arasam) president Penugonda Lakshminarayana presided over the function held at police kalyana mandapam.
Speaking on the occasion, Enoch said that there were no degrees to scale the merit of Jhashuva’s literature. He said that Jhashuva’s felicitation by his contemporary poets itself shows the strength of his literature. “Jhashuva raised his voice for the poor, against the untouchability, discrimination of dalits and hunger of downtrodden through his poetry. He laid path for many generations that followed him,” praised Enoch.
Noted poet Yendluri Sudhakar said that researches were conducted on Jhashuva’s writings in all the universities. He said that Jhashuva writings gave direction not only to the writers but the society. Vinukonda legislator GV Anjaneyulu said that he was proud to represent the constituency , the birthplace of Gurram Jhashuva. Former minister Alapati Rajendra Prasad, women commission chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari, MLA David Raju, industrialist Bommidala Srikrishna Murthy, writers Dr Papineni Sivasankar, Ghazal Srinivas, Dr Vijayasri, Johnson, Wilson, Srilekha and others were present.
