Willie Mullins anxious to hear outcome of BHA investigation

Champion trainer Willie Mullins has said he is awaiting the outcome of a British Horseracing Authority investigation into alleged betting irregularities which arose on the back of the withdrawal of Faugheen from last March's Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham.

A leg injury ruled the Mullins-trained Faugheen out of the race less than a month beforehand and it is reported that the BHA are examining a number of ante-post bets placed by punters before news of the horse’s non-participation was confirmed.

Mullins, who is not involved in the investigation, helped BHA officials with their enquiries earlier this year but said he had heard nothing on the matter until a newspaper report on the matter on Sunday.

He said: “I wasn’t given specific details by the BHA but they were looking for certain dates and times and I did that. I haven’t heard anything else until today. I’m as anxious to know what happened, if anything happened, as quickly as possible.”

The BHA has said it doesn’t comment on investigations although the identities of those involved in that investigation have reportedly been established. The Turf Club is assisting the BHA with their examination.
