Neel Mukherjees Chocolate, which was completed long back, is releasing alongside some of the much talked-about films this Puja. Not many know about it. Why such an unexpected release?
You should ask the makers this. The festive season is round the corner, it is that time of the year when people want to watch films, make merry, eat out and have fun.
Its a good time to bring our film, which is fun-filled, quirky and light-hearted. The film has a good dose of romance too.
With films like Abhimaan, Zulfiqar, Gangster and several others releasing at the same time, dont you feel Chocolate will get lost in the crowd?
You cant survive if you are so insecure in life. That apart, one has to be confident of the product he or she is part of. I am sure that our film will be loved by all as it is a feel-good movie, which will make you happy at the end of the day. And each release has its own USP. Rest is up to the audience to figure out. Their verdict will help decide which film will run and which will tank. Why think of it now?
The songs of some of the other releases are already a hit. But the audience is yet to get a taste of your films music. Dont you feel you are lagging behind?
ID (Indraadip Das Gupta) has scored the music and three songs will release soon. I am sure it will be liked by the audience. Promotions of the other films started earlier than ours, but we will soon catch up.
Last year, many films released during Durga Puja. This year too, its no different. What do you feel about the trend?

Again, I am not the right person to answer this. If the makers are releasing so many films, there must be a business prospect. As an individual, I feel there should a gap between two releases as it takes time for a film to leave an impression. Word of mouth is hardly of any use if too many films are releasing at the same time. Show timings and the number of screens also become a problem when many films are releasing at the same time. But again, at the same time, the industry must be making profits for the trend to continue.
The trailers of most Puja releases are out. Which looks the most promising?
The best part is that all the films have a specific look and message, which doesnt allow it to get mixed up with the other. So, thats a commendable thing as each film is different from the other.
Forget you are Paayel Sarkar. After watching the trailers, which film do you want to watch first?
(After a pause) Zulfiqar and, of course, Chocolate.
What made you say yes to Chocolate?
The script by Rudra (Rudranil Ghosh) is so hilarious that I took just a few seconds to give my nod. Neelda, as a debutant director, has done a marvellous job he is sorted and knows what he wants from his cast. He is technically very sound, which made the work easier. And with Param (Parambrata), Rudra and Neelda around, it was more of adda on the sets. Neelda completed the film in 17 days thats way ahead of his schedule. That is commendable considering he is wearing the directors hat for the first time.
What is the story of the film?
The film revolves around Param (police officer) and Rudra (thief). A chocolate box comes into the picture and it leads to hilarious incidents one after the other. I play Rai, an over-possessive rich girlfriend of Param. She has gifted a ring to Rana (Param) and wants him to wear it 24x7, as Rai feels that will strengthen their bonding. Somehow the ring gets lost and how Param gets it back is the story of the film. Though I love dark chocolates in real life, this Chocolate is much more sweeter and tastier.
In real life are you over-possessive as a girlfriend?
Not at all.
Raj (Chakrabarty) broke up with Mimi (Chakrabarty) recently. Did you speak to any of them after that?
Why should I bother about anyones breakup? We are not in touch, so why should I call him?
People said you had the last laugh after Rajs breakup as the popular notion is, what goes around comes around
(Laughs) I am beyond all this. Something which happened five-six years back, doesnt bother me now. Is it worth talking about? I have a different life now.
The buzz doing the rounds is that your relationship with Abir Sengupta has hit a rough patch...
(After a pause) No.
You two would often indulge in virtual PDA, but of late you have gone quiet on social media
Everything doesnt have to be for a reason, right? You dont need to put up pictures to profess love.
But there cant be smoke without fire
I said what I had to.
Is Abir coming for your films premiere?
No. He has work.
