Eying expansion, AAI to recruit 1200 people for various functions

Aiming a mega expansion, state-owned Airports Authority of India is set to hire 1,200 people by the end of this year. The hiring will take place across various functions such as air traffic control, corporate affairs, legal and technical departments, The Indian Express reported on Sunday. In a conversation with IE, AAI chairman Guruprasad Mohapatra said that hirings are being carried out to keep up with the growth of the organisation.  The AAI currently employees 18,000 people across India with training centers at Delhi, Allahabad, Gondia, Hyderabad and Kolkata. The state-owned company has 125 airports across the country of which about 95 are operational, with 71 having scheduled commercial operations.  The authority’s staff requirement is set to rise with the implementation of organisation’s new expansion plans.

The organiosation earned revenues of Rs 10,824 crore in 2015-16, and profit before tax of Rs 3,697 crore.  The AAI has also initiated the process of developing 50 no-frills airports across the country and may also start operations on a number of unserved ones. In Union Budget 2016-17, the government has mentioned that these 50 airports will be built at a cost of around Rs 50-100 crore each. The authority has hired around 800 air traffic control personnel in the last two years, while some other hiring will be made in upcoming times. This will be the first major ATC recruitment by the AAI since 2012.
