ALLAHABAD: Come Children's Day, and the district administration will organise special right to education (RTE) fairs in the city on November 14 to make kids aware about their rights and motivate them to go to school.
The Uttar Pradesh basic shiksha department has allotted a corpus of Rs 14 lakh for the purpose.
The amount would be spent on organising cultural events, competitive sports and motivational lectures and to hold meetings with the parents and teachers in selected regions.

Project Officer, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, GS Priyadarshi said, "The main aim of the fair will be to ensure that parents are aware of the guidelines of the RTE Act and the rights of their children. The move is expected to increase the literacy rate in the district."
He said children would be informed about the fairs traditionally by the drum-beaters in kuccha roads of the villages and by loudspeakers on pucca roads. Similarly, posters and banners would be pasted in rural areas to ensure that the turnout at fairs is massive.
A recent report by the state education department revealed that all 20 development blocks in the district were lagging behind in providing proper education to children as they were categorized as educationally backward blocks (EBBs).
Districts like Sitapur, Jaunpur, Gorakhpur and Hardoi with each having 19 blocks are behind Allahabad with each having 19 educational backward blocks (EBBs)
