THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police on Saturday raided a house at Thrikkannapuram near Thirumala and arrested eight people, including five women, who were allegedly engaged in prostitution. They were charged with relevant sections of Immoral Traffic Prevention Act.
The police identified the male accused as Dileep Kumar, 32, of Vattappara, Ramakrishnan, 51, of Manacaud and Shibu, 41, of Vattiyoorkavu.
The police, however, refrained from revealing the names of the women arrested.
Museum Circle Inspector B Anil Kumar, who led the raid, said that the police raided the house based on a tip off received.
The immoral activities there were being carried out under the aegis of a 33 year old woman among the accused and her husband, who was an auto rickshaw driver. She was arrested before by Sangumugham police in the city for the same offence.
''She is currently pregnant," the inspector said, adding that she used to take a commission of Rs 500 each from the other women, who were caught from the house.
The house was taken on rent by the couple one and a half months ago.
All the other women claimed that they arrived at the house only a day ago.
All of them were into prostitution business for the last couple of years.
The woman from Andhra Pradesh too had been doing business in the state for the last two years, the CI said.
The police have also seized cash worth around Rs 4000 and eight mobile phones from the accused.
They will be produced before the court on Sunday.
