Laurence Belkoff, DO, FACOS, received the Distinguished Osteopathic Surgeon Award from the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons (ACOS) on September 23, recognizing his accomplishments as a surgeon, educator and researcher. This makes Belkoff the only physician to win both this award and the Orel F. Martin Medal, the highest award bestowed by the ACOS.

Laurence Belkoff, DO, FACOS, urologic surgeon, received the Distinguished Osteopathic Surgeon Award from the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons (ACOS) on September 23, recognizing his accomplishments as a surgeon, educator and researcher. This makes Belkoff the only physician to win both this award and the Orel F. Martin Medal, the highest award bestowed by the ACOS. He received the Martin Medal in 2014.

Dr. Belkoff is affiliated with Hahnemann University Hospital, Einstein Healthcare Network and Mercy Health System. He is a senior partner with Urologic Consultants of Southeastern Pennsylvania and sees patients in Center City Philadelphia, Bala Cynwyd and East Norriton.

"I am extremely honored to receive this award," Belkoff says. "My goal is always to blend education, research and patient care in ways that provide the best possible outcomes and quality of life."

The award recognizes Belkoff "for an outstanding career of surgical care and for being a leading change-agent, allowing us to continually improve the practice of osteopathic medicine," says ACOS president Dawn Tartaglione, DO, FACOS. "Belkoff has lead ACOS projects that will benefit our patients, physicians and organizations well into the future."

The award was presented at the 2016 Annual Clinical Assembly of Osteopathic Surgeons on September 23. Belkoff has served the ACOS as president and a member of the Board of Governors.

Belkoff currently serves as professor and chairman of the Department of Specialty Surgeries and the Division of Urology at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and is an assistant professor at Drexel University College of Medicine. He is the program director for the urologic surgery residency program at Hahnemann University Hospital. He also is the medical director of urologic services for Mercy Health System.

Belkoff is passionate about clinical-trials. He has been the principal investigator for more than 150 phase two to four clinical trials and has been published in many peer-reviewed articles and abstracts. He has lectured widely nationally and internationally.

Belkoff lives with his wife Sherri in Lafayette Hill, PA where they raised three children – Josh, Emily and Andie.
