Look-alikes Carlos Slim and Andrew Liveris awarded by foundation

If Mexican telecommunications billionaire Carlos Slim ever feels like skipping an awards dinner, he can call up his brother from another mother, Dow Chemical CEO Andrew Liveris.

The two were on stage as award honorees of Rabbi Arthur Schneier’s Appeal of Conscience Foundation dinner, held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Monday night.

The rabbi, who founded the organization, remarked on the likeness, joking that Liveris should just simply grow a beard and then they could be truly indistinguishable.

Slim’s speech to the power crowd touched on the unrecognized economic might of Mexico, while Liveris, who is in the midst of executing a merger with DuPont, spoke about workplace tolerance and how companies can be good citizens and still pursue profits.

Around 850 guests, including Henry Kissinger and Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman, battled a gridlocked Manhattan to attend the event.

Beleaguered French President François Hollande received the Statesman of the Year honor in recognition of his efforts to protect democracy.
