Inflated electricity bill irks Wakad residents
Pimpri Chinchwad: The residents of several housing societies in Wakad have planned to take out a morcha to the local office of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) on October 1, demanding correction in the inflated electricity bills they have received.
Sachin Londhe of Nandan Inspira housing society said, "Members of the housing societies are receiving excessive bills from the power company.
The bill that would earlier be around Rs2,500 comes as high as Rs5,000."
Speaking to TOI, President of Pimpri Chinchwad Housing Federation Sudesh Raje said, "There are around 400 housing societies in Wakad. Residents have complained of receiving inflated bills. Many of the residents are IT professionals who are paying these exaggerated bills fearing the power company would disconnect their supply."
Around six months back also, the dwellers had received inflated bills. "The meter readings were not taken properly. The distribution company had taken a decision to change the contractor who was taking meter readings. But, we are still getting overblown bills," he said.
Raje said flat holders had met with MSEDCL officials and pointed out the problem, but they did not accept the fault.
A senior MSEDCL official said, "We have not received complaints of inflated bills. If the consumers have any problem with the bills, they can contact the local office for correcting them."
