P P Mukundan stays away from Smriti Sandhya'

The former organising general secretary had spent 19 months in jail.

KOZHIKODE: Aggrieved at the cold-shouldering by the state leadership, senior leader P.P. Mukundan chose not to attend ‘Smriti Sandhya’ that felicitated the Jan Sangh old-timers and those leaders imprisoned during Emergency. The former organising general secretary had spent 19 months in jail.

Sources said he got the invitation only a day before the national council and that too after he sent a birthday greeting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “He wished Mr Modi and conveyed that he cannot meet the PM in Kozhikode as no invite was there,” a source close to him said. But, former state president K. Raman Pillai who had attended the 1967 summit took part in the programme.
