Gurgaon reports first case of suspected dengue death

“The patient was in critical condition, with multi-organ failure. He was bleeding from the nose, oral cavity and internally in the abdomen,” said Dr Ashish Chandra, general manager of Columbia Asia hospital in Gurgaon’s Palam Vihar.

He added that the patient was admitted to the ICU as a case of “suspected dengue shock syndrome, in view of an NS1 card test that had yielded positive results”. “Unfortunately, in spite of the best possible treatment, the patient succumbed to his illness at 6.18 am Saturday,” added Chandra.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Pushpa Bishnoi, however, said that the cause of the death was yet to be confirmed. “A case can only be confirmed as dengue after an Igm Elisa test yields positive results. In this context, the child was admitted on Friday night, and no such test was conducted,” she said.

Gurgaon has seen 68 dengue cases this season, of which 49 were reported among residents while 19 patients were from other places.
