Guwahati, September 24
The three villages in the periphery of Kaziranga National Park (KNP), which were cleared of encroachers on September 19, would be added to the national park area.
The park is home to Big Five — rhino, elephant, Royal Bengal Tiger, Asiatic buffalo and swamp deer —besides other animals, reptiles and birds.
KNP official Subhashis Das said the forest department had prepared a proposal to be submitted before the Assam Government to include the three villages — Bandardubi, Palkhowa and Deuchurnchang — to be added to the park area as seventh and eighth additions. As many as 168 families from Bandardubi, 115 from Deuchurchang and 12 from Palkhowa were evicted by the administration to clear animal corridors. — TNS
