Fulham fan Lee Johnson was happy to see his Bristol City team upset the Cottagers and hailed the squad's resilience and ability to soak up pressure in what was, in the end, a convincing 4-0 win.
Tammy Abraham, 18, the England under-19 striker on loan from Chelsea, put the visitors ahead with his 10th goal of the season after only 10 minutes.
And in the second half the Bristol side picked Fulham off with goals from Luke Freeman, Bobby Reid and Aden Flint. Fulham's Kevin McDonald was sent off 10 minutes from time.
"The family are very strong Fulham fans and they were here today," Johnson said. "I was really chuffed with the performance.
"Fulham are such a good side in possession that you're always going to have to deal with spells of sustained pressure.
"We had to defend resolutely at times, but on the break we were outstanding. We have energy, pace and quality in the group and we're starting to understand each other's games."
Johnson claimed that he had expected a victory, although not by such a margin.
"I did see it coming," he said. "I expected my players to play the way we did because that is what we have been doing, although I didn't expect the result, to come here and win 4-0.
"We broke from positions of strength and once we got the second they were always going to become stretched.
"We keep the unit tight and that gives you energy, you're not everywhere the ball has just been. If we stay solid our fitness will come through and we will score because we have that quality around the box."
Slavisa Jokanovic, the Fulham manager, may appeal against McDonald's red card when he has consulted video evidence, but he admitted that his team needs to rediscover their early season form following a run of five games without a victory in all competitions.
"We didn't deserve the [4-0] difference in goals but we are not solid as we were at the beginning of the season," he said.
"We had two good chances after they scored but we had 15 shots at goal and only two on target. We play around but in the opposition's we don't find the end product.
"At the beginning of the season we more compact, more solid and aggressive. We have try to dominate matches like we did at the beginning of the season.
"But we haven't found the best solution after the international break.
"Now we have to go back and understand what we wanted do in pre-season. And maybe the new players still need time to adapt to what we want to do."
