'Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2' Just Keeps On Getting Bigger And Better

This article is more than 7 years old.

With the release for the upcoming Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 at the end of October, more details are coming out about just how big this new game will be.

The previous Xenoverse was a sizeable game, with around 47 playable characters along with an additional five with the DLC.

However, at present there are around 68 characters known of in Xenoverse 2 with a total roster closer to 87.

What with the addition of more challenging co-operative modes, where you and your friends take on things like a Great Ape, it’s clear that Xenoverse 2 is going big in terms of its content.

When I played the game at this year’s Tokyo Game Show it was both fun and fluid. It’s clear the team at Dimps is building on what made the first Xenoverse so good and as such hasn’t changed anything in a fundamental sense. As a result, Xenoverse 2 felt more polished and iterated upon.

The fact the game doesn’t have to cater for the last generation of consoles this time around is also a big deal, as it means Dimps can use Unreal Engine 4 in a more optimized way for current gaming hardware.

Considering that the first Xenoverse went on to sell over 2 million copies, it’s obvious that both Dimps and Bandai Namco are keen to build on that success and are doing all they can to make Xenoverse 2 as comprehensive as it can be.

I am also curious to see whether there is indeed a possible narrative connection between this new game and the currently airing Dragon Ball Super. If there is, considering that Super is still only available in Japan, this kind of story crossover could be a bit of an issue.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is released for PS4, Xbox One and PC on October 25th in the U.S. and later on October 28th in Europe.
