The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has warned that aftershocks may follow the magnitude 6.5 earthquake that struck off Mati in Davao Oriental early on Saturday. The agency however discounted the occurrence of a tsunami.
“Aftershocks are expected given the earthquake's magnitude,” Hermes Daquipa, Phivolcs research specialist, said.
