Parents demand seats for NEET rank-holders

September 24, 2016 12:00 am | Updated November 01, 2016 08:37 pm IST - PUDUCHERRY:

The Puducherry CENTAC Students and Parents Association has charged the managements of private medical colleges with failing to adhere to the directions of the Supreme Court in admitting students who had cleared the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET).

M. Narayanasamy, association president, told presspersons here on Friday that candidates who had cleared NEET should be selected for admission by the State governments concerned.

But the colleges in Puducherry had gone ahead and admitted students on their own collecting fees of Rs. 25 lakh from each student. This was ultra vires to the direction of the Supreme Court. The Puducherry Government should intervene in the matter, he said.

Mr. Narayanasamy alleged that those who had not been ranked in CENTAC had got into the colleges through CENTAC. Hence, these irregularities had to be addressed before the third and final phase of counselling was held. Candidates who had cleared NEET should be considered for the seats failing which the association would intensify its protests.
