New York Mets right-hander Noah Syndergaard will miss Saturday's scheduled start due to a case of strep throat.

It is the latest blow for New York's starting rotation. On Thursday, the Mets announced Steven Matz was scratched due to discomfort in his shoulder while Jacob deGrom and Matt Harvey are out for the season.

New York manager Terry Collins said he is hopeful that Syndergaard will be able to pitch in "a couple days."

Sean Gilmartin will make the start in place of Syndergaard, who is 13-9 with a 2.63 ERA in his second season. Gilmartin owns a 4.76 ERA in 13 relief appearances this season.

The Mets entered play Friday tied with the San Francisco Giants for the top wild card in the National League.

Collins previously said he had slotted Syndergaard to make the start in a potential wild-card game, but told reporters Friday he's hopeful to get two more starts out of the 24-year-old right-hander.

"We can't worry about Oct. 5," Collins said, referencing the date of the wild-card matchup.
