ALWAR: At a time when Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) is taking measures to develop anganwadis into learning centres, a sudden inspection by the collector on Friday painted a dismal picture of these courtyard shelter homes in Bharatpur.
The inspections found 27 anganwadis closed and 225 employees absent in Bhatarpur district.
Following Bharatpur collector L N Soni's directions, the inspections were conducted at 186 anganwadi centres.
The officials found 47 anganwadi workers, 47 sahayika, 89 sahyogni and 42 sathin absent from the centres.
The collector said that three centres were found closed in Kaman, five in Pahari, four in Bayana, four in Roopwas, one in Bhusawar, two in Wair and six in Nadbai block of the district.
In addition, wall clocks and bells, which were provided by a foundation, were also found missing from the anganwadis.
According to the survey report, Kaman block has 28 anganwadi centres, out of which wall clocks and bells were missing from 25 centres. In Pahari's 14 anganwadi centres, 11 wall clocks and 10 bells were missing. In Bayana's 26 anganwadi centres, 20 wall clocks and 21 bells were not found. In 33 anganwadi centres of Roopwas block, four wall clocks and two bells were missing. In Nagar's 28 anganwadi centres, seven wall clocks and seven bells were missing. At 20 centres in Nadbai block, nine wall clocks and nine bells were missing.
The report says that the employees had taken these items to their homes.
Besides, the attendance of children at anganwadi centres was also affected due to absence of employees. As per the report, the centres reported only 50% attendance of children..
