In a bid to celebrate women’s role in promoting family values and sustaining marriages, Women of Valour Global Mission, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has concluded plans to hold its inaugural Valiant Women Awards on the November 13, this year at the Sheraton Lagos Hotel and Towers, Ikeja, Lagos.

Lady Lovett Obiakalusi, president of the organisation, while speaking during the week, said socio-economic factors, such as divorce, separation, single parenting and same-sex marriages have become new norms and drastically affecting marriages and eroding God-given family values; hence the urgency to do something about them.

“The family is under threat! Families are experiencing serious challenges from negative forces. Love, prayer, togetherness, respect and submission are no more in the family.

“Husbands do not love their wives anymore. Wives do not submit themselves to their husbands, while children are becoming deviants by the day,” she said.
She added: “Women play an important role in the life of the family. They are the homemakers, sustainers of values, a helpmeet and their husbands’ best friends.

“We have decided to introduce the Valiant Women awards to restore the dignity of families. It is the celebration of the woman glowingly described in the Holy Bible (Proverbs, Chapter 31).

“The awards will be celebrating outstanding Christian women in these categories- Valiant Housewife; Valiant Career Woman; Valiant Woman in the Community; Valiant Woman in Music; Valiant Woman of Commerce; Valiant Woman in Missions; Valiant Woman in the Media; Valiant Woman in Ministry; and Valiant Golden Woman.

The Valiant Golden Women is the category specially created for women who have been married for 50 years and above. Some of the aims and objectives of the awards are to re-introduce God’s design for marriage, where the man is the head of the family and the woman is his help-meet, as well as recognise, commend and celebrate exceptional Nigerian women who have been courageous, brave, sincere and honourable and shown immense strength and character in promoting excellence in marriage and family life.
