LUDHIANA: Days after cricketer-turned-politican Navjot Singh Sidhu said Awaz e Punjab would not form a political party, another member of the front, independent MLA Simarjit Bains said they would contest assembly elections and go for a pre-poll alliance with a like-minded political party.
Bains said members are in touch with Sucha Singh Chhotepur and MP Dharamvira Gandhi. "We have already conducted a survey on over 100 seats and will contest elections only on those seats where candidates have a strong chance of wining," he said.

On being asked about senior AAP leader and MP Bhagwant Mann's claims that their party would not form an alliance, Bains said they never approached Mann. Quoting an MP from his own party, who sat alongside Mann in Parliament and accused him of coming drunk, he said, if Mann could not even deliver a speech without drinking, how could he talk about a coalition or alliance.
He said the decision of not forming a party, which was conveyed by Navjot Singh Sidhu through a statement, was taken after consultations with Bains Brothers and Pargat Singh. He said the decision was taken during a meeting held with them and Pargat Singh at his residence in Delhi by Sidhu. He said they were all of the opinion that the formation of a new party might help the SAD government, which people of the state did not want. Therefore, they decided against forming a party as of now.
