Villanova coach Jay Wright will be without one of his prized recruits this season. USATSI

The NCAA has ruled five-star prospect Omari Spellman ineligible at Villanova, which means the reigning national champions will play this season without their highest-rated recruit. How big of a loss is this for Jay Wright's Wildcats? I asked Matt Norlander that question right at the top of this episode of the Eye on College Basketball podcast, and we agreed it does matter but probably won't be the thing that determines whether Villanova does or does not win another Big East title.

After that, we discussed ... Western Kentucky.

You've probably heard that first-year coach Rick Stansbury is killing it on the recruiting trail in a historically unprecedented way for WKU, and not everybody thinks it's on the up and up. So we talked about that from a bunch of angles, and I wondered the following: what must it be like to be in a position where if you secure a commitment from a great prospect people assume you did something sketchy?

Undeniably, that's the position Stansbury is in.

It's a fascinating situation.

We talked about that for a while.

Is Larry Brown really going to coach high school basketball?

Norlander and I talked about that, and I explained why I'm not surprised that the 76-year-old Hall of Famer is at least considering the option. And then we closed by discussing five programs that were once great but aren't even very good right now -- specifically Arkansas, Georgetown, St. John's, Stanford and Wake Forest.
