Five held guilty of drug trafficking in Panchkula

The accused were arrested by the Chandigarh unit of NCB on October 17, 2014, when they received a tip-off about the case of drug trafficking in Pinjore.

A local court on Friday held five persons — a couple from Rajasthan, two from Mohali and one from Manimajra — guilty of drug trafficking. The convicts were identified as Narinder (32), a resident of Bhilwara in Rajasthan, who was sentenced to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment; his wife Raju Devi (36) along with Mohali residents Pritam Singh (62) and Darshan Singh (56) were sent to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and Raj Kumar was given three-year jail term.

The accused were arrested by the Chandigarh unit of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on October 17, 2014, when they received a tip-off about the case of drug trafficking in Pinjore.

Narinder had come to a petrol pump near HMT factory in Pinjore around 1.30pm along with his wife and their two-year-old son in an autorickshaw. When they got down from the autorickshaw, a car came and halted near them. Pritam, a taxi driver, and Darshan were in the car.

During interrogation, Narinder confessed that he was going to hand over another packet containing 500gm opium to Raj, a resident of Manimajra, for Rs 50,000. Raj was also arrested.

On Friday, the court of additional and district session judge Rajneesh Kumar Sharma held all the five persons guilty under Section 8,18,29 and 60 of NDPS Act and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment.
