Obama: It Would Benefit Trump to Visit the Smithsonian Museum of African-American History

Friday in an interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America,” President Barack Obama explained why he thought it might benefit Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump to visit the Smithsonian Museum of African-American History.

According to Obama, Trump previous assertion that black Americans were “in the worst shape they have been in before” ignored the era of slavery and Jim Crow in the United States.

“This was in response to an assertion that he then repeated after my remarks that this is the worst time ever to be black,” Obama said. “I think even most eight-year olds will tell you that whole slavery thing wasn’t very good for black people. Jim Crow wasn’t very good for black people. What we have to do is use our history to propel us to make even more progress in the future.
