The Goindwal Sahib police arrested 15 gangsters with a huge quantity of arms and ammunition, besides four vehicles, from a locked industrial unit in the industrial complex of Goindwal Sahib, 25 km from Tarn Taran, late last evening.
Senior Superintendent of Police Manmohan Kumar Sharma said those arrested were Ranjit Singh Kala, Surinder Singh Happy, Harpreet Singh Happy, Kulwinder Singh, Lovepreet Singh, Jagroop Singh, Jatinder Singh, Harpreet Sigh of Johal Dhai Wala, Gagandeep Singh, Simratpal Singh, Jaswant Singh Jass, Manjider Singh Ladi, Rajinder Singh Malhi, Sandeep Singh and Inqlab Singh. Two of the leading gangsters, Iqbal Singh Faridee and Jagdeep Singh JP, managed to escape.
The district police chief added that five rifles of .315 bore, a gun DBBL, three revolvers, a pistol and 39 cartridges of different bore.
Four vehicles — Safari (PB-03-AA-5008), Verna (PB-46 L-8845), i-20 (PB-02 BK-1332) and Indica (PB-46L, 8845) — have also been taken in possession by the police. The SSP said Goindwal Sahib SHO Inspector Ravisher Singh, after a tip-off, raided the spot where the gangsters had been planning to commit a robbery with a heavy force and arrested 15 gangsters out of 17.
