Ambala, September 23
The facility of lift will be provided on each platform of the Ambala Cantonment railway station as part of efforts to modernise it, Divisional Railway Manager Dinesh Kumar said here today.
Interacting with media persons, the DRM said the railway station would be made world class and several steps were being taken in this regard. The offices which are not directly linked to passengers will be shifted from the platforms, he added.
“Passengers will have the facility of WiFi by December this year. Besides this, stainless steel chairs will also be placed soon,” the DRM said.
“The French partner of the Indian Railways for the re-development project will hold a seminar on October 5 in Ambala in which private players have been invited to share their ideas to develop the station as a world class one. The process of redeveloping the station may start from a scratch,” he added.
To a query, the DRM replied, “The building of the Ambala Cantonment railway station is old, but we have checked that it has not been declared as a heritage building yet.”
