A month wise break-up show that dengue and chikungunya cases have persisted throughout the year and the number of chikungunya cases were double that of dengue this year.

AT THE state diagnostic laboratory at BJ Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital, an analysis of samples tested from January till September shows that 18.1 per cent have tested positive for chikungunya and 9.3 per cent for dengue.

Out of 3,378 samples sent for laboratory investigations at Sassoon from January till September this year, a total of 611 tested positive for chikungunya and 316 for dengue.

In September itself, as many as 888 samples were sent for laboratory investigations from Pune and surrounding areas in the district out of which 314 tested positive for chikungunya and 135 for dengue while in August, the number of samples were 391 out of which 89 tested positive for dengue and 157 for chikungunya.

A month wise break-up show that dengue and chikungunya cases have persisted throughout the year and the number of chikungunya cases were double that of dengue this year. In July out of 348 samples — 23 had tested positive for dengue and 46 for chikungunya. In June, 16 people had tested positive for dengue and 18 for chikungunya out of 219 samples.

At PMC, the number of confirmed chikungunya cases in the city has risen to 548 while 341 are dengue cases according to a report on communicable diseases.
