MOTIHARI: The Motihari bandh called by Vyavsai Sangh to protest the killing of a trader on Thursday night near Hindi Bazaar, evoked total response on Friday as all business and commercial establishments downed their shutters and vehicular traffic remained off the roads.
Hundreds of protesters blocked the roads at several places in town. They also burnt tyres and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits responsible for the murder.
The traders also demanded security.
Shyambabu Prasad alias Tulla, a kerosene baron and jaggery trader of Bisatpatti locality was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne criminals while he was returning home at around 7 pm on Thursday.
After the murder, the Vyavsai Sangh of Motihari held a meeting and decided to observe a bandh on Friday.
The bandh passed off peacefully and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere. SP Jitendra Rana with other officials were seen moving on the roads. He also assured the agitating traders and other protesters that the culprits would be soon brought to book.
Only a fortnight ago, another trader was shot at by extortionists.
According to police sources, one Amit Kumar, a nephew of Shyambabu Prasad, was shot on August 27, 2014. Shyambhu had then lodged a case against Shambhu Prasad and six others, who are currently in jail. Shambhu, a K’oil racketeer and the deceased, Shyambabu Prasad, were business partners. Police suspect Shyambabu was killed by his rivals.
Meanwhile, brother of the deceased, Rambabu Prasad, has lodged a case against six named accused and all are Shambhu’s kin.
