SAMBHAL: Senior Samajwadi Party leader and three-time MLA from Gunnaur assembly constituency, Ram Khiladi Singh Yadav, has been booked for allegedly assaulting two policemen who had gone to his house to rescue a person who had been abducted and kept there. The policemen were also allegedly kept confined at the house for several hours before they managed to escape, according to officials.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Sabharaj Singh told TOI, “Based on the complaint of constable Satyender Singh Yadav, an FIR has been filed against MLA Ram Khiladi Singh Yadav, his accomplices Bijender Singh, Satveer and five unidentified men under sections 147 (rioting), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the IPC.”
Meanwhile, the MLA’s son, Akhilesh, has denied the incident and alleged the case was a political conspiracy hatched by his father’s rivals.
The sequence of events began with Badaun resident Bharat Singh Yadav lodging an FIR at Gunnaur police station stating that his son, Satish, 25, had been abducted from Gunnaur while on his way to Delhi on September 19, by one Basudev and four other persons. Bharat Singh told the police that the kidnappers had demanded Rs 50,000 as ransom, to be delivered at the MLA’s residence.
Beat constables Satyender Singh Yadav and Mehboob Ali, posted at Babrala police chowki, went over to Ram Khiladi Yadav’s house along with the kidnapped youth’s father to rescue him.
“To escape arrest, the accuse Basudev and his men entered the MLA’s house. The MLA asked us for a search warrant, and then he and his men assaulted us,” said Satyender Singh. After being confined for several hours in the house, Mehboob Ali managed to escape and informed higher officials, and a heavy force was sent to the MLA’s house to rescue the other constable.

According to the SP, an FIR had also been filed against the two constables by the MLA’s aide, Umesh Kumar, under sections 452 (house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and the SC/ST Act.
“Three FIRs have been filed in the matter so far: the original abduction case of Bharat Singh’s son, the second by the constables and the third against the constables. No arrest has been made so far,” said the SP, adding that Bharat Singh and his son, who is now free, have been summoned for questioning.
Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav, son of the SP MLA, defended his father by alleging that the entire matter was a conspiracy by Ram Khiladi’s political rivals to “defame him” in the runup to the state assembly elections.
“When the police tried to arrest the accused, they ran inside our house, where a brawl erupted between my father’s supporters and the constables over their illegal entry into the house. We assisted the police in handing over the kidnappers and the victim. During the incident my father was not present at the house; he had gone to attend the funeral of a relative in the village,” Akhilesh added.
