Batman: Arkham Dev Talks About Saying Goodbye to the Series

Batman: Arkham developer Rocksteady has stated that Arkham Knight was the last game in the series that it planned to make, so what might the studio make next? It's too soon to say, but producer Dax Ginn told Eurogamer that the studio is thinking about what its "dream game" could be.

"To be honest I don't really know," Ginn said when asked what Rocksteady might make next. "We're in a very enviable position where we have some time and space to decide what we're doing next. We can sit back and think what our dream game would be, and we have Warner Bros.' support to do that."

Rocksteady, which is based on London, is owned by Warner Bros. Ginn went on to say that Rocksteady has proven itself to be a "hardworking team" that works well together. "We can really decide what's best creatively for our own destiny," he explained.

Leaving the Batman franchise behind kind of feels like a breakup, Ginn added, since Rocksteady is so familiar with the franchise and admires it so much.

"I think there's a little bit of sadness on the team," Ginn said. "It feels like... breaking up? [The mood] is really split--there's a feeling in the office like, it's definitely time to do something else. We all accept that. But we all know Batman so well--we all feel comfortable in the Arkhamverse."

For its next game, Rocksteady is "letting go of that comfort blanket," he teased, adding that, "Whatever we do next is going to feel very different."

Also in the interview, Ginn confirmed that Rocksteady has finished development on Batman: Arkham VR for PlayStation VR and revealed that one developer celebrated the "going gold" news by wearing a gold spandex suit. Batman: Arkham VR is expected to launch this year; PS VR itself goes on sale October 13.

As for the Batman: Arkham HD remaster game, Batman: Return to Arkham, development is being handled by Virtuos Games, not Rocksteady. The game, which includes remastered versions of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, comes out on October 18 for PS4 and Xbox One.
