ITBP hawaldar from Hassan dies

D.K. Keshavaiah, native of Devarahalli in Arakalgud taluk, who has been working as Hawaldar in Indo-Tibetan Border Police for last 14 years, died accidentally while on a training programme with National Disaster Response Force at Batinda in Punjab on Thursday.

Keshavaiah, who is survived by wife Kamala and their son and daughter, reportedly died during a swimming expedition during training. He joined the ITBP when he was 18-years-old. His family members were informed about the incident on Thursday. Hassan Superintendent of Police R.K. Shahapurwad confirmed the accidental death.

As news of Keshavaiah’s death reached his village, hundreds of villagers and relatives gathered at his place. His wife and children were inconsolable. He was about to opt for retirement in around four years.
