If the first two tracks from Green Day‘s upcoming Revolution Radio album didn’t convince you that the Berkeley, California, trio are back in classic form, then their latest sneak peek should do the trick. Billie Joe, Mike and Tré dropped the blood-pumping lyric video for “Still Breathing” on Thursday night (Sept. 22) and it is packed with the kind of angst-dripping lyrical twists and turns that marks some of GD’s most beloved work.
Green Day Robs a Band (Or Do They?) in Tim Armstrong-Directed ‘Bang Bang’ Video
“I’m like a junkie tying off the last time/ I’m like a loser that’s betting on his last dime/ Oh, I’m still alive,” Billie Joe Armstrong sings over quickly strummed acoustic guitars and a spare beat. “I’m like a son that was raised without a father/ I’m like a mother barely keeping it together/ Oh, I’m still alive.”
Like many of the band’s best songs, the parade of similes about soldiers coming home after surviving the horrors of war and lonely children staring off into the distance comes down to a simple premise: slogging through it all to make “my way to you.”

Though the band was recently forced to postpone and cancel several dates on a planned promo tour due to an unspecified illness that struck that struck several members of the group and their crew, the song makes it clear that (at least on record) Green Day are back in fighting form.
Green Day Lands First Mainstream Rock Songs No. 1 in 7 Years With ‘Bang Bang’
“Cause I’m still breathing/ Cause I’m still breathing on my own/ My head’s above the rain and roses/ Makin’ my way away/ Cause I’m still breathing,” Billie Joe sings on the explosive chorus. “Still Breathing” follows the release of the album’s title track and single “Bang Bang.”
