CHENNAI: Traffic situation on Anna Salai and a few other roads in Chennai is likely to worsen after offices hours today as police blocked the Greams Road connecting Anna Salai and College Road.
The Chennai city traffic police blocked the Greams Road on Friday after chief minister J Jayalalithaa was admitted to Apollo Hospitals with fever and dehydration on Thursday night.
The hospital is on the Greams Road. Only cars belonging to police officers, bureaucrats and ministers were allowed.
AIADMK cadre from across the city had been heading towards the hospital since morning, creating traffic snarls on Anna Salai, G N Chetty Road and Nungambakkam High Road.
Police said traffic snarls could occur on all these roads after 5pm lasting at least an hour.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by the hospital on Friday afternoon said the chief minister “has no fever now and is taking a normal diet.” It said the chief minister was continuing under observation.
