Ivy League of Terrorism: How Enam Gambhir destroyed Pakistan defence as Pak envoy Maleeha Lodhi became butt of jokes

New Delhi, Sep 23: After attack on Indian Army camp in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri, India and Pakistan locked horns in the ongoing General Assembly session of the United Nations. Enam Gambhir, first secretary at the Indian mission in UN, made scathing attack on Pakistan describing it as host to “the Ivy League of terrorism” in response of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s speech in which he raised the issue of ongoing unrest in Jammu and Kashmir. Enam Gambhir went all guns blazing against Pakistan and called it a “democracy deficit country” where terrorists roam freely. While India’s junior diplomat took on Pakistan brutally, Pakistan’s UN Envoy Maleeha Lodhi embarrassed Islamabad with her tweet about Nawaz Sharif’s address.

“With the approval of authorities, many terrorist organisations raise funds openly in flagrant violation of Pakistan’s international obligations.” India and others in the region are suffering from Pakistan’s long-standing policy of sponsoring terrorism, “the consequences of which have spread well beyond our region,” Indian diplomat Enam Gambhir said in UNGA. Slamming Pakistan for promoting terrorism and violence against India, Gambhir said, “What my country and our other neighbours are facing today is Pakistan’s long-standing policy of sponsoring terrorism, the consequences of which have spread well beyond our region.” (ALSO READ: Pakistan’s lyrical praise for Burhan Wani gets slammed in the most severe manner by Eenam Gambhir)

Enam Gambhir exposed Pakistan’s double-speak on terrorism shortly after Nawaz Sharif expressed concern over growing violence in Kashmir. “Shortly before Pakistan gave its hypocritical sermons in this august house today, its envoy in New Delhi was summoned in the context of the most recent of the terror attacks in Uri that claimed 18 Indian lives. That terrorist attack is part of a trail of continuous flow of terrorists trained and armed by our neighbour and tasked to carry out terrorist attacks in my country,” she said.

Taking on Nawaz Sharif, who tried to teach lesson to India on democracy and violence against own people, Enam Gambhir reminded Pakistan how human rights are being violated on its own soil. “..it practices terrorism on its own people. It extends support to extremist groups, it suppresses minorities and women and denies basic human rights including through draconian laws. As a democracy India is firmly resolved to protect all our citizens from all acts of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. We cannot and will not allow terrorism to prevail,” she said.

While Enam Gambhir left no stone unturned to express India’s anger post Uri terror attack, Pakistan’s Envoy Maleeha Lodhi only increased trouble for her country. Lodhi set the tone of Pakistan’s disastrous day at UN making a blunder in her tweet. ”Entering the UN for the PM’s ACTRESS to the GA,” Lodhi tweeted. Instead of ADDRESS, Pakistan diplomat used ACTRESS in her tweet mistakenly, but her bluff embarrassed Nawaz Sharif and entire Pakistan.

After Enam Gambhir’s fierce response and Maleeha Lodhi’s blunder, a parallel was being drawn between the two diplomats. However India’s Enam Gambhir despite being a junior diplomat clearly had an upper hand on Maleeha Lodhi who is a senior. Maleeha Lodhi, who is a political scientist, diplomat, columnist, strategist and first Pakistan woman to become country’s envoy at UN, failed to lay a strong pitch for Pakistan’s counter attack despite known the fact that India would not leave any chance to isolate their country at the international platform. On the other hand, Enam Gambhir made strong case against Pakistan at UN.
