Rain plays havoc in Telangana district

Four persons are feared dead in Medak district as several parts of Telangana came under sheet of water due to heavy rains since Wednesday.

According to information reaching here, four persons died in Medak district in the last 12 hours – Kalavathi (35) and Tulasi (eight) - died after a house collapsed at Medak town. Shammama (60) died when wall collapsed at Mubarakpur in Sadashivapet mandal.

It was reported that one Swamy (45) was washed away in rain water while trying to save his son in Kongur village of Kulcharam mandal. Though the son was saved father went missing and it is feared that he was washed away.

Due to overflowing of tanks and lakes, connectivity was cut among several villages at Manoor, Kangti, Kalher, Narayanakhed.

Average rain fall in the district was registered as 10.3 c.m., with Chinnashankarampet 21.1 c.m., Kangti 16.5, Kalher 15, Gawjel 14.5, Shivampet 14.3, Toopran 14, Toguta 13 and Sangareddy 10 c.m. rain fall.

In view of heavy rains district administration declared holiday for educational institutions.

Flood gates opened

As water level in the Sripada Yellampalli project in Karimnagar rose, 10 flood gates were lifted to release 17,421 cusecs. The reservoir was receiving inflows of 13,561 cusecs. Present water capacity is 19.56 tmcft against the Full Reservoir Level of 20.175 tmcft.

Nizamabad Collector Yogita Rana alerted official machinery to face flood and heavy rain situation. Control room has been established at Collectorate with toll free no 1800-425-6644 and Bodhan 0846722201. Revenue personnel were instructed to enumerate house damages fully/partially to pay ex-gratia within 24 hours.

Traffic diverted between Banswada-Bichkunda road and buildings road to Pitlam due to overflowing low level causeway at Peddadevada in Bichkunda mandal.

Warangal Collector Vakati Karuna said special cell has been set up at Collectorate to help people in distress due to rains. In view of the intermittent rain in Warangal, the Collector declared holiday for educational institutions.

In view of heavy rains, the Nalgonda Collector Satyanarayana Reddy asked revenue, panchayat raj, agriculture, horticulture, road and buildings, rural water supply and health department officials to submit status report on rains. He ordered the revenue officials to ensure that people living in low lying areas were evacuated to safer places. He alerted the irrigation officials to keep close watch on irrigation tanks for possible breaches.

A Khammam report said crest gates of Kinnersani reservoir were lifted to let out surplus water.
