Again?? We just had one the other day. Mark my words people. Something big comes Tokyo's way.

It caused minor shaking in the Tokyo region, though many said they didn’t feel it.

I was one of them too.

It caused no more shaking than when a heavy truck drives past my house.

Aly Rustom - thats a crazy prediction to make in a country where earthquakes are so rare! You're like a clairvoyant!

Yes, scientists and historians for decades have been predicting "a big one" to hit Tokyo sometime soon. Your fear mongering is not only useless, but gross.

Haha! Nope. That's just (pointless) fear mongering like those predicting something big happening in the year 2000, 2012, etc.

Great! so to agree with scientists and historians now is fear-mongering? so where do you get your information from?

Gargoyle- then perhaps you would like to explain why the former Governor of Tokyo and Osaka set up a contingency plan to deal with the very real possibility of an earthquake in Tokyo. And why would you college fair mongering anyway? It's not fear mongering to tell people to be prepared. In fact it's very stupid to ignore the very real possibility that it can and will happen. Also reckless

@Aly, I don't think anyone will disagree with that, or the general idea that the big one is coming. But using a pattern of smaller earthquakes as some kind of precursor is not very helpful. "we just had one the other day" has been the typical situation in Tokyo since goodness knows when.

Ally, you're totally right that being prepared is not fear mongering. But they are not preparing contingency plans based on predictions that the big one "will" happen. They are doing so because every single city should be prepared for the worst. It's common sense. Now calling and predicting that the so called big one "will happen" is fear mongering. If you ask me, (in my opinion) the big one already happened, five years ago. That's been the biggest one in Japan since they started recording quakes data.

Fair enough. I see what you are trying to say. But my point is that earthquakes are increasing with more frequency, and that is cause for alarm. Its not just the area around Japan. Its all over. We're seeing earthquakes happen more often with alarming frequency.

But they are not preparing contingency plans based on predictions that the big one "will" happen. They are doing so because every single city should be prepared for the worst. It's common sense.

Every major city in Japan already has that. I'm talking about the article here on JT that talked about Ishihara visiting Hashimoto and laying out a plan that would shift the capital from Tokyo to Osaka if/when the big one hits Tokyo. That is altogether different.

Now calling and predicting that the so called big one "will happen" is fear mongering. If you ask me, (in my opinion) the big one already happened, five years ago. That's been the biggest one in Japan since they started recording quakes data.

Well then, please feel free to call the scientists fear mongerers. Their words. Your opinion is duly noted and respected, although I will respectfully disagree with it. I for one do believe we are not far off from a really big one in Tokyo. Having said that, we all need contingency plans- stocking up water and food that doesn't spoil, first aid kit and a general emergency bag.

I do hope you are right though. I do hope that we have seen the last of the huge earthquakes here. But I doubt it.

I too seriously doubt we've seen the last and worst yet.

It's a major active fault line. Does that mean anything to couch experts and gw deniers?
