AIZAWL: A mob ransacked the official residence of the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) of southern Mizoram's Lunglei town on Thursday and gheraoed the premises of the district court for hours, forcing police to arrest 30 people for unlawful assembly.
Reports from Lunglei said the inhabitants of Zohnuai had assembled in front of the district court to see a murder accused who killed a man from their locality in a drunken brawl.
The victim was reportedly trying to separate the two men.
The mob pelted stones the damaging window panes of the court building. Police wielded batons injuring two people. Another case for ransacking the residence of the CJM was also registered by police.
