Govt may rethink ban on cockpit photography in grounded jets

Govt may rethink ban on cockpit photography in grounded jets
NEW DELHI: The government is likely to rethink the blanket ban imposed on flyers from taking pictures or selfies in the cockpits of planes on ground.
Some airlines are requesting the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to have strict no photography in cockpit rules while an aircraft is flying but relax the same while it is on ground.
“It is a very common thing for children requesting crew to be allowed inside the cockpit to take a picture while alighting from planes.
We will request the DGCA to allow photography in cockpit on ground,“ said a senior airline official.
Sources said that regulator may leave this decision to the discretion of airline crew.
A DGCA air safety circular issued on August 29 had asked airlines to ensure that “passengers do not indulge into photography while embarkingdisembarking from aircraft.“
The air side ban is, however, likely to continue as that has been imposed for safety reasons.
Photography inside cockpit has been banned for crew also in all phases of flight and not just while flying.
